• Historic timeline. Placitas was formed by the 1745 Spanish land grant entitled San Antonio de las Huertas. Many descendants of the original land-grant families still live in Placitas.
• Contemporary expression. Unlike many similar communities, which have given way to fast-paced development, Placitas offers residential growth patterns that are rational and surprisingly non-invasive. Newer neighborhoods have large minimum lot-size requirements, with covenants that preclude inappropriate walls, overly aggressive landscaping or over-building. Architectural standards assure a traditional Southwest ambience while allowing enough latitude to produce appealing streetscapes at every turn. The overall effect of this predominantly residential enclave is extremely persuasive: "This is a place I'd like to live."
